Myth - You Only Use 10% of Your Brain

by Michael Lovitch

This one kind of bugs me because I see it repeated everywhere!

It is simply not true. Period. Brain imaging studies clearly show that we use almost all of our brain.

But you don’t have to take my word for it, thanks to Dr. Eric H. Chudler from the University of Washington. He has a whole web page dedicated to refuting this myth.

I hate it to. Uri Geller, Carolyn Myss, and all the new-agers spit this out to somehow verify psychic phenomenon

That is crazy! Everything I have read on self help tells us that we only use 10% or less - I feel duped!!!

I’m with you Michael. I know for a fact (well, my own facts) that I use at least 50 to 75% of my brain everyday. How else would I be as productive as I am?

I don’t know about the rest of you fine folk, but I use ALL of my brain! Meaning: I wouldn’t think that ANY of it is disposable! I believe that most of the brain is composed of redundant areas; these are the ones that allow for “reconnection” of neural pathways after devastating trauma. It may not be used NOW (or ever), but it IS use-ABLE.

There must be parts of the brain that you use and don’t even realize it. Your breathing, your heart beating, etc., are processes that require the brain. I suppose if you took all the parts the scientists know are “thinking parts” (those that “light-up” under their tests of people as they think) you could sum-up brain use as only 10%. But I’m with Greg - I use 100% of my brain!
