Internal Parasites in a "First World" Country

by Michael Lovitch

Here’s a short article about the 9-foot tapeworm lawsuit I mentioned in my email:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/08/19/tapeworm.suit.ap/index.html

Who would have thought that eating salmon could be so risky?

Without going into who should be blamed for this particular incident, it’s crazy to think that this could actually happen in the United States.

How can you prevent intestinal parasites?

Well, one thing you can do to prevent this from happening is to cook your food well!

The Centers for Disease Control says that you can prevent parasite exposure by cooking salmon at a temperature of 130 to 133 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 minutes, or by freezing it at –4 degrees Fahrenheit for 7 days before eating.

(Source: http://www.cdc.gov/NCIDOD/EID/13/1/169.htm; temperatures converted from Centigrade temperatures cited in article.)

But this won’t help with restaurants or places where you’re not in control of the food preparation.

Parasites are widespread

I did some more digging on this. Although there are conflicting reports, it seems that a lot of us have parasites and don’t even know it.

According to some sources, there are over 100 different types of parasites that can reside in the human body, causing issues like:

  • allergies,
  • anemia (worms leach nutrients from bodies, causing anemia),
  • constipation,
  • diarrhea,
  • fatigue,
  • lack of concentration,
  • bloating,
  • immune dysfunction,
  • anxiety, and
  • restlessness.

I really had no idea about this, and although some of this stuff can be overblown by certain health practitioners, I think there’s a lot of truth here.

What can you do to make your body inhospitable to parasites?

Aside from cooking your food, and staying away from unsanitary conditions (like walking barefoot through sewage), there are certain conditions that make it more likely you will be a good host for parasites.

These conditions that predispose you for parasitic invasion include: too much mucus, an intestinal flora imbalance, chronic constipation, and a toxic internal environment.

A healthy gut helps fend off parasites

This whole discussion reminded me of a product I reviewed a couple of years ago that helps people maintain a healthy colon. (It’s also a great weight loss starter, by the way.)

What I remembered is that it also includes parasite removal as part of this cleanse. So I called the manufacturer, and it does kill fish tapeworms and their eggs (if you’re still thinking about the scary salmon!).

I’m more interested in the fact that it promotes a healthy gut, removes a lot of old (fairly disgusting) fecal matter from your system, and just gives you a “fresh start” in so many ways. Sometimes being backed up like this can hamper your weight loss efforts, even if you’re doing everything else right.

The product is called Ultimate Colon Cleanse, and for full disclosure I have been close friends with the founder for over 3 years now. I personally use the system once a year. It really provides a boost of energy (kind of like cleaning your pipes).

Because of the fish story and my research, I asked the founder if he would give you guys a special deal on the program. Here’s what we came up with:

He’ll let you try it for 30 days as a trial, and won’t even charge you for the shipping.

If you don’t like it, just send it back, with no damage done to your wallet. (Please don’t take advantage of him on this, though, if you aren’t serious.)

This is totally amazing. You would think here in the USA that physicians would be looking for parasites if it so widespread and can cause the various issues you mentioned. It is a known fact that fish do have parasites, especially the bottom feeders.

A concern, however. Do you know if these ingredients in the Ultimate Colon Cleanse have any interactions with prescription drugs, in particular, various heart medications.

I didn’t know about the raw salmon! I eat a lot of bagels with lox. I wonder if I might have a parasite (or two)? That could be what was holding back my weight loss! as soon as I’m done leaving this comment, I’m going to click on the link (above) and check out the Colon Cleanse! If nothing else, it may be the perfect companion to the other weight loss program I’m on (hypnosis CD’s).

OMG - this is a too scary. We have parasites in our food. I took a look at the Colon Cleanse, and if this is what we can expect in our food in this country, Colon Cleanse is well worth the investment to cleanse my system on an annual basis. I have made up my mind and I am going to get Colon Cleanse.

Now I don’t want to get too political, but it is certainly a shame that our country allows this to happen because funding is sourced to other unnecessary concerns and the focus is off the health of the people of this great nation.

I work at a colonhydrotherapy cleanse retreat and see a variety of worms and parasites every day. Porkworms, Beefworms, flukes and others. More exotic types of parasites from our foreign clients. Statistics say over 80% of our general population here in the USA has parasites. To avoid them WASH your fruits and veggies well, COOK your meat if your going to eat meat, and REGULARLY partake of a cleansing program for your digestive system. Thank you Michael for educating people about this important health topic that people avoid discussing. Miracles can happen when we clean the body internally. I see it every day :)

If you are interested in losing weight AND doing a weekly cleanse to combat these critters, let me know. I’ll be happy to go over the procedures with you. This is truly a scary thought. I had not even considered parasites in my decisions regarding food and nutrition. Another thing to be aware of….

Everyone has parasites, no matter how healthy you are. You’ll need to do a parasitic cleanse often to get rid of the parasites that you get from the foods you eat. It’s a maintenace program not a one time thing. Good luck.

I wanted to add a really big side effect of parasites that I didn’t see or I missed here. It is insomnia. They are what keeps most of us insomniacs up at night. It takes at least 6 months for the cycle of parasites to stop. (Per my holistic nutritionist) It is not the governments fault or anyones fault. Bugs are on our food, they feed off of plants. It is up to us to rinse, rinse, rinse even if it says triple washed. They are in the air we breath. Are you a gardener? They are all over that! Most times they are harmless and if our intestines are in optimal health, we expell them. If you use, abuse or have taken antibiotics, steriods or just have poor gut health, the parasites are given a chance to take over. Take your probiotics and Saccromyces Boulardii and do the cleanses suggested here and you will be good to go.(pun intended) Susan

Looks like a great product. It says it has grapefruit seed extract in it, which I’ve been taking for different things — it’s a great antibiotic/anti-parasitic/anti-fungal/etc. But I’m sure that with conjunction with all the other ingredients, it makes it even better. We have lots of little critters running around inside us that we don’t even know about, even when we feel relatively healthy. Great article!

9Chris 09.03.08 at 5:56 pm

That’s pretty scary. People usually think of fish as being pretty safe since e. coli and stuff like that are usually in red meat. I guess it’s hard to stay away from all types of parasites.

Do you think products like this are safe for people that have IBS/IBD (irritable bowel/inflammatory bowel problems)?

11Michael Lovitch 09.03.08 at 8:22 pm

That is a good question about IBS. I know that they sell a lot of the colon cleanse to the IBS market so I would think it would be safe… maybe I can get Buck to answer this one!

Hi T,

We have many customers who try the Ultimate Colon Cleanse specifically because they want relief from IBS.

Here’s a testimonial one of our customers sent us just today that you might find useful.

After years of suffering with debilitating IBS, terrible bloating and
abdominal pain I was more recently diagnosed with dirverticulitis and
had almost given up hope of a normal lifestyle. I found this product
on the internet whilst searching for a non invasive colonic irrigation
system and after reading the testimonials decided to give it a try.
It turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! Even
after the first week of using Ultimate Colon Cleanse the bloating
stopped, my stomach felt flatter and no more discomfort. I am now on
my third week and I am absolutely thrilled – finally I can get out and
enjoy my life!

Many thanks,
Marguerite

Watch out for your pets, too. Besides their own vulnerability, their parasites can be transferred to you as well. For instance, children who play in dirt outside (and most kids do) are at risk for getting pinworms whose eggs will later contaminate their clothing and bedding too, making it hard to prevent eventual re-infection. The culprit is pet feces in the dirt where the kids play. Even if you have no pets yourself, you cannot be certain your property was never a dog or cat’s toilet. So this is a tough problem. Fleas, ticks, and lice can also invade your home by way of furry animals, and getting rid of them is a royal pain.

On the other hand, be careful about the ingredients in any internal cleansers or external cleaning products you use. Some of these products do far more harm than good, even when used exactly according to directions. In particular, be aware that commercial antibiotics, as well as anti-bacterial ingredients in cleansers, do not kill every last parasite or germ. With lack of competition from the ones killed, the mutant few that survive will then blossom into a new generation resistant to what killed most of the previous one. That’s why hospitals are now home to such nasty antibiotic-resistant infections.

The real best defence is prevention through the radiant good health produced by proper nutrition, prudent handling of food and food preparation utensils, and care with regard to pets. There is ample proof that every illness known (including cancer, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, and diabetes) can be both prevented and cured by relatively simple natural means, at far less cost and with far less discomfort than by “conventional” treat-the-symptoms-only methods.

Search the internet on the word “nutrition” to save your health and quality of life. Want a shortcut? Start with Health Sciences Institute, Dr. Mercola, and Natural News (all of which I subscribe to but do NOT gain from recommending).

If you have not seen this information before, you will be shocked at how you have been misled by Big Food (crowding out the small but conscientious farmers, while producing crops with less and less real nutritional content so we all get sick), Big Pharma and Big Medicine (trying to put us all on pay-dearly-to-treat-symptoms-until-you-die plans), and governments (plural - not just in the U.S.) that fail to protect their citizens from this corporate greed because sick, brain-fogged citizens are not strong enough to fight back effectively or wise and informed enough to vote them out.

Get the truth, then use hypnosis (if necessary) to reshape your lifestyle habits.

No matter what your age or present condition, you CAN see an improvement this way. But you must do this for yourself (and your young children or grandchildren, if you have any). No one else will do it for you.

Thanks for the post, Michael. It’s a public service, provided people think it through without panic.

Crystal and T.: Be careful. Eveyone has unique body chemistry from heredity, what you have eaten all your life, and whatever drugs you have taken or are now taking. NO ONE can know how all these factors might interact in any particular person - not even your own doctor (who may not have time to investigate the issue thoroughly for you). Please consult a health practitioner who is both well informed on these issues (check his or her credentials) and is willing to spend enough time with you to give you a properly considered opinion based on your medical history, current eating habits, current and past prescription and over-the-counter medication use, current herb use (if any), and the ingredients and usage directions in any intestinal cleanse product BEFORE using it.

Ann: Same warning. But if your lox is kosher and properly stored and handled, you are at somewhat less (though not zero) risk.

All others: If you eat right for long enough, your body will cleanse itself. Until then, or if you have been eating the Standard American Diet (SAD) all your life, a cleanse may help. But again, heed the warning to avoid unnecessary complications.

We can also use electro-therapy or energy medicine to get rid of parasites. For example, look up the works of Dr. Hulda Clark. A famous book of hers, “The Cure for All Diseases,” has a simple schematic for you to build your own zapper. You can also look up zapper at eBay and find all kinds. You can also look up “Clarkia” tincture on the web; it’s a famous herbal cleansing remedy. (I’m not here to take away anyone’s thunder - just to let everyone know that people are always finding ways to eliminate parasites because they’re a major health issue.)

I heard that when Elvis dies, he had, like 25 pounds of build-up in his colon! I probably have a dime or a dime-and-a-half of extra weight, too! But I wonder, from anyone who’s used this (or any other colon-cleansing) product - once taken, are you subject to a sudden marathon of bathroom-keeping, or does it just work within your natural cycle? I would be very interested to know this!

16Master Cleanser 09.04.08 at 12:47 pm

Parasites are a very difficult thing to rid so a preventative approach is truly the most helpful. Keeping our bodies pH in balance will help keep them from setting up shot as easily. This can be done with proper diet, fasting, and supplementation. The pH miracle is good book for understanding the concept. For those needing help into a diet transition, a juice fast can be a HUGE motivator for getting things lined up. My personal favorite is the Master Cleanser.

I read an article recently about research done by a gastroenterologist named Joel Weinstock. He noted the rise in IBD and tied it to the LACK of parasites. He did a study in 2005 and introduced Trichuris suis parasites into 29 patients with Crohn’s Disease and 23 of them improved. That certainly puts a different spin on things.

Dear Michael Lovitch! I am receiving your newsletter for quiet a while and I like it. Sometime ago you introduced your readers to Ultimate Colon Cleanse, you didn’t mention that company can ship this product only to Canada and United Kingdom. I phoned to this company and spent almost an hour on the phone but couldn’t get any help. Do you perhaps know any company making a similar product and could ship it to South Africa?

Thanks,

Gregory

I can’t count how many bagels with lox I have eaten over the years! You always have to be wary of where you buy your salmon, but I had no idea that it might contain parasites and be clogging me up! I am a man of years, and I need all the “cleanliness” I can get! I wonder - how is it on aging intestinal tracts? I mean, will I be uncomfortable?
